THE

Artist.

Stella Earth is Mickaël Couturier’s most ambitious work to date:
a monumental creature born from discarded ocean plastic, shaped to awaken wonder and give form to the crisis of the sea.

Couturier is a French multidisciplinary artist whose practice moves across sculpture, mosaic, painting, photography, film, music, and environmental storytelling. His work has travelled from Cannes and Oscar-affiliated festivals to prominent art venues and global audiences, carrying a language of beauty, memory, and urgency.

Through large-scale works of awareness and impact, Couturier transforms ocean waste into presence. His practice shines a light on the plastic crisis while contributing to the feeding and education of children in need.

With Stella Earth, discarded plastic becomes more than material. It becomes a body, a signal, and a call to attention, turning wonder into awareness and awareness into action.

OVER 30 YEARS

of Art with purpose.

Classically trained at L’École des Beaux-Arts, Mickaël Couturier has spent over three decades creating art that carries meaning beyond beauty. His work explores human stories, environmental urgency, and the power of imagination to create real-world impact.

His main project, Plastic Angels, has helped feed and educate hundreds of children growing up in the middle of Bali’s biggest landfill, turning recycled plastic into art, awareness, and action.

THE ART

is Alive: Augmented Reality

“Together we can change the world, together we can, together we will.”

Through augmented reality, Mickaël’s artworks open into living stories. Voices, music, movement, and hidden narratives emerge from the image, transforming each piece into an immersive world where art speaks, remembers, and connects.

In one of her final artistic collaborations, Dr. Jane Goodall gave Mickaël the immense honor of creating her portrait, she signed the work by hand.

Through augmented reality, her own voice carries forward a message of hope.

MOSAIC

Mickaël’s mosaics transform discarded plastic into monumental portraits of dignity, memory, and hope.

Each artwork is built from thousands of hand-cut plastic fragments, often between 4,000 and 6,000 pieces, and can take up to three weeks to create. Some works reach 2.5 x 3.5 metres, turning waste into large-scale stories that cannot be ignored.

Through Plastic Angels, these artworks have helped feed, educate, and give visibility to children living around Bali’s Suwung landfill.

SCULPTURE

Mickaël’s sculptures bring discarded plastic back to life.

Using a process of cutting, melting, shaping, and assembling, he transforms waste into vibrant tiles and monumental forms.

Each fragment carries a past: a beach, a landfill, a child’s story, a piece of the world we almost forgot. The result is powerful, and deeply human: plastic becomes memory, movement, and flight.

FILM

Film is where Mickaël brings the mission closest to the heart.

His award-winning documentary The Art of Giving follows the children of Suwung and the people fighting beside them, revealing the fragile line between beauty, poverty, and plastic pollution. The film has earned international recognition, including Balinale’s Committee Choice Award, where the jury praised its intimate and impactful storytelling.

Across his wider filmography, Mickaël’s films have been selected by 100+ festivals in over 50 countries, including Cannes and Oscar-qualifying festivals.

MUSIC

Music was Mickaël’s first artistic language.

As a composer, performer, and storyteller, he uses rhythm, silence, voices, and melody to give emotional architecture to his work. Music runs through his films, sculptures, and augmented-reality artworks, turning images into living worlds.
